Volume 4 Progress...
Guest curated by Josh Love, Volume 4 is a departure from the archive to date in that Love is attempting to realise the works. Love has been working with artists (in collaboration with Unrealised Projects) to develop their ideas into a physical exhibition.
In his capacity as curator/producer he raises questions about how works are defined as un/realised, the moral obligations faced when producing artists' works, and the translation that takes place from archival to material space.
Volume four curator, Josh Love is a London based curator. His recent projects include 'Cathode Ray Mission' at Waterside Project Space, London, 'Pirate Central' at Auto Italia South East, London and 'What's in it for me?' at Seventeen Gallery, London. He works as part of the New Display Strategies collective, investigating new modes of address and exhibition. Having worked closely with the artists in Volume Four of Unrealised Projects, Love has drawn out the realised possibilities through various strategies, informed by the premise of intellectual property rights and the abusive nature of contemporary curatorial practice(s).
Sarah Conway-Dyer & Claire Coupe: Investigative project into narrative structures in still imagery. Series of unrealised film posters to be exhibited based upon two characters interplay in art world scenario mysteries.
David Cunningham: Curatorial realisation of 16 short film projects originally undertaken with Slade school of art students in the early 80's. A 'scattered'/ displaced show reel to be exhibited including past and current responses to his 16 short scenarios.
Neva Elliott: Project culminating in professional development for fine artists, an art specific life coach will be present in the exhibition to supply free (to the public) consultations. The process of intelligent questioning and investigative consultation also running parallel with my own curatorial investigation in volume 4.
Cecilie Gravesen: Project concerning shared experience and issues with linguistic description of events. Currently producing a collaborative 16mm film with a London based optometrist.
Robert Kiff: Film project relating to urban regeneration using Welwyn Garden City as a catalyst. Exhibiting tracking shot video of disbanded industrial sites.
Andrea Medjesi-Jones: Poetic language as the instigator of visual language. Practice concerning visual languages translation into verbal communication.
Sophie Risner: Working on the realisation of bureaucratic spaces and manners of engaging with bureaucratic discourses as an artist. Exhibition of display structures deployed in bureaucratic environments.
Ola Stahl: Practice regards the reuses of 'discarded' language. This is being applied to the production process of volume 4 and will trace the projects development through discarded layers of production.
Paul Stanley: Project dealing with memory and materialistic resonances specific to self-destructive objects. Personal memories connected to a single images act as the catalyst for his work.
Cecilia Wee: Piece resulting in BBC proms request to her for ways of making the proms more relevant/appealing to a contemporary audience. Exhibiting failed correspondence and its relevance to the unrealised.
